PDOS Could Risk Hardware to a Complete Crash Down

A PDOS (permanent denial-of-service) attack could be so damaging to a system that it might require reinstallation of hardware or complete replacement. Unlike the notorious DDOS (distributed denial-of-service) attack that sabotages a Website or service or is used to deliver malware, PDOS totally sabotages the hardware, said a security investigator at HP Systems Security Lab on May 19, 2008.

According to Rich Smith Head of Research for Threats and Offensive Technologies, HP Systems Security Lab, while the PDOS attack isn't regarded as a mean to cover another attack like a malware insertion, it is certainly a highly destructive and logical extension of the DDOS extortion tactics found today, as reported by DarkReading on May 19...
