Search Engines are Used for Click Fraud Through Botnets

According to ClickForensics.com, the rate of click fraud for the industry thriving on pay-per-click rose 10.1% during the first three months of 2008 over that of the same months in 2007 with 16.3% of click fraud detected on the whole.

According to the research carried out, the worst parties of offense were the popular search engines, Yahoo and Google, whose rates of click fraud rose significant by 26.9% annually in Q1 of 2008.

ClickForensics.com also says that the median rate of click fraud of PriceWaterCoopers (PPC) advertisements posted on content networks of search engine, including the Yahoo Publisher Network and Google AdSense, was 27.8% in the first quarter of 2008. The figure was, however, less than the 28.3% reported for Q4 2007.
