Zombies Target Marshall’s ISP with Massive DDoS Attack

Officials at Marshall Islands' government-owned National Telecommunications Authority (NTA) reported that e-mail communication came to a halt in the country on June 24, 2008 after hackers attacked the only Internet Service Provider (ISP) of the western Pacific country with a zombie-styled computer attack.

The attack on NTA involved spam mails that suddenly rushed to the ISP in volume that was four times higher. Some person with malicious intentions opened infected PCs to overwhelm NTA with e-mails. This process of sending the huge number of messages clearly indicates the level of sophistication used in the attack. It also closely resembles a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, as Internet technicians name it.
