Compromised Sony PlayStation Website Presents Scareware

According to SophosLabs, a new surge of SQL injection attacks that is circulating across the Internet has made Sony USA's PlayStation Website a victim of the assault.

Explaining the procedure of the attack, SophosLabs writes in its company blog that when a visitor accesses the vulnerable PlayStation site, a malicious script pretending to do an online scan of the security of the user's PC starts running. At the same time, it presents a false warning that the PC has been infected with various pieces of malware, as reported by InformationWeek on July 2, 2008.

SophosLabs further writes that users are frightened of the scareware 'alert' might haste to buy worthless software.
