Adware Extracts Maximum Profit for Malware Operators
In spite of the dominance of malware attacking Internet gamers and the availability of INF/Autorun, the continuous presence of Toolbar.MyWebSearch and Virtumonde in the ESET report of top ten online threats detected in July 2008 indicates that adware still generates the maximum profit for the malware operates.
The top 10 threats revealed by ESET for July 2008 were Win32/PSW.Online Games at top position with 12.72% of the total attacks. INF/Autorun and Win32/Adware.Virtumonde acquired the 2nd and 3rd position with 4.68% and 4.41% of the total attacks respectively.
ESET Researchers also discovered Win32/Pacex.Gen, Win32/Toolbar.MyWebSearch and JS/TrojanDownloader.
