BitDefender Releases its Top Ten E-Threats ListAccording to BitDefender, two well-known malware samples took top positions on BitDefender's Top Ten E-Threats List in July 2008. The list revealed that Trojan Clicker.CM, a pop-up after getting distributed through infected Websites, occupied the first spot. Next was Trojan Downloader.WMA.Wimad.N, a simple downloader that attempts to get users to download adware in the guise of a video or music player. Both the Trojans were extremely simple in form and execution. The only ruse being employed was that of a specialized code in Trojan.Clicker, allowing it to escape Norton's pop-up filter. BitDefender Analysts said that the third place on the list went to Trojan.Downloader.Wimad.A, a latest addition to the list. This malware is a variant of Trojan.Downloader.WMA.Wimad.N and seen at various places on the net such as in P2P sharing networks, in media installing sites or in spam. Sorin Dudea Head of BitDefender AV Research, sated that the company is witnessing start of the Internet flu in place of mega-killer epidemic. There are these repetitive infections that though not very hazardous but pervasive and difficult to recognize and wipe out, as reported by MarketWatch on August 14, 2008. Another new entry since June 2008 to the Top Ten was Trojan.Swizzor.1, a bewildering downloader that arrives amidst a bunch of e-threats. This downloader effortlessly downloads and stores new threats on the victim's PC, executing them at intervals. It also attaches itself onto the registry so that it becomes activate every time the system is booted. Moreover, Dudea said that his research team was surprised when it collected the data because the top threats include the same Trojans in the same arrangement as June's menaces - a somewhat unusual happening, as reported by Istochanalyst on July 15, 2008. Meanwhile, BitDefender revealed that the three highest placed e-threats in July 2008 on the basis of their percentages are Trojan.Clicker.CM (6.63%), Trojan.Downloader.WMA.Wimad.N (4.49%) and Trojan.Downloader.Wimad.A (2.91%). Trojan.Qhost.AKR (2.57%) occupies the fourth place and Exploit.SWF.Gen (2.39%) the fifth while Trojan.FakeAlert.PP (1.65%), comes last at the tenth place on the list. » SPAMfighter News - 28-08-2008 | SPAMfighter is a free spam filter for Outlook, Outlook Express,Windows Mail and Thunderbird Optimize your Slow PC for better performance.
