Bot-Infected Computers Rapidly Rising
According to security researchers, the total number of computers under the control of botnets has dramatically increased in recent months. As per the latest statistics from the Shadowserver Foundation, which traces the activities of botnet and tracks the aggregate number of control and command servers, the total number of bot-infected computers quadrupled during June-August 2008.
Further, according to Shadowserver, the trend within the statistics is clearly upwards. The rise in bot-infected PCs counts between 100,000 and 400,000 on the basis of monthly data, and between 20,000 and 60,000 per five-day period. The Shadowserver statistics also suggested that the number of control and command servers declined over August 2008 after an increased activity in July 2008.
