Adware Accounted for 33% of Malware Q3 2008IT security firm Panda Security released a report for third quarter July-September 2008 on September 2, 2008 that indicates of all the new malware samples, adware accounted for 33%. The firm revealed that there was a growing use of phony anti-virus scanners, which warn that the computer has an infection and advise downloading software to clean the malware. However, once the fake anti-virus is downloaded and ran, it pretends to conduct a scan of the user's computer to detect a number of infections that in reality are false.
