Microsoft Releases Emergency Update for New Vulnerability in Windows OSs

On October 23, 2008, Microsoft released an emergency patch to fix an important vulnerability, which could automatically spread malicious software to systems using Windows XP and older versions of the software giant's (Microsoft) operating system.

According to a Microsoft advisory, a flaw in the processing of malicious RPC (Remote Procedure Call) requests triggers the vulnerability that could lead to acquiring full control of an affected computer by the Windows Server service. Online attackers are already using this vulnerability to compromise systems, said the advisory.
