Safeguard Antivirus Threatened by Malware Attacks

According to an information security company, iViz, antivirus software could probably serve as a Trojan. Security experts found that after phishing, vishing and pharming, the antivirus software used to protect PCs from the malware is itself spreading the malware at a rapid pace. Usually, the users remain ignorant of the fact that their safeguard software could also be compromised.

Further, iViz identified various flaws in the normally-used antivirus software that facilitates its hacking. The company also stated that the hacker may send an e-mail containing an infected file, which, when executed, may lead to the convenient hacking of the antivirus software.

Amuleek Bijral, Country Manager, India and Saarc, RSA, the security division of EMC, revealed that the antivirus software are easily prone to such hacking attacks as they are able to detect and remove only the familiar viruses. As an instance, if a virus is developed and mailed to the user's ID by his friend or colleague, the antivirus and firewall will fail to detect it as a virus and presume it to be a fine program.

However, some antivirus are able to detect the malicious activities and blocks them, but on a whole, Internet users can never be fully protected with merely an antivirus software because it provides just a limited solution, reported Business Standard.

The security experts stated that antivirus software is a limited solution that aims at blocking the virus attacks. Complete protection of the system is difficult to attain by using a point solution.

Bijral further stated that hackers just require the random change of signatures to get through the antivirus software and thus, it is not a very tough task for them.

Transformation in the setting of malware has given birth to several variants of malware dangers and the targeted attacks.

Normally, the strategy of the hackers is to aim the antivirus programs and process and render them inactive or shut them down to prevent the detection of any attack. The antivirus is turned on after the successful completion of the attack so that the shut down of the antivirus cannot be identified.
