14% YOY Increase in Malicious Programs Targeting Virtual WorldsAs per the security reports, the European Network and Information Security Agency (ENISA) launched a campaign against scams running in virtual worlds because they have had a serious impact on the real economy. According to the findings of campaign, there was a 14% year-on-year increase in malicious programs from December 2007 to November 2008. Over 30,000 programs were detected during that period targeting property and accounts in virtual worlds and online games, said online security firm Kaspersky Labs. These malware programs aimed at stealing virtual property from users' accounts and sell it in exchange of real money, said security experts.
