Cyber Villains Growing Smarter, Adopting Advanced Assault Tactics

The report released by Cisco Systems Inc. on December 15, 2008 disclosed that Internet-based cyber assaults are getting more specialized and sophisticated, with criminals seeking higher gains, and constantly improving their tactics to steal confidential data of companies, employees and clients, as reported by ComputerWorld on December 15, 2008.

Researchers at Cisco observed a significant increase of 90% in the number of risks evolving from legit sites, which is approximately double the figure recorded in 2007. But the annual report of the company for 2008 states that the number of malware spreading through e-mail attachments is on a decline. Additionally, the volume of attachment-based malware assaults slid down by 50% from the 2005-06 levels.
