SecureWorks Released List of New Botnets for 2009Security researchers at SecureWorks Inc. have stated that although several major botnets were eradicated in 2008 with the closure of the Web hosting firm in California, new botnets emerged to replenish the void. Joe Stewart, Director of malware Research at SecureWorks, has compiled a list of these botnets to look out for in 2009, as reported by Security Pro News on January 16, 2009. Stewart said that the botnet Cutwail contains 175,000 estimated bot-infected PCs. It was one of the few botnets that escaped the McColo closure. Moreover, this botnet gained strength when many free agents suddenly signed up.
