Malware Leads to Data Leakage at HeartlandNew Jersey-based Heartland, a company that provides processing services for debit/credit cards, said that its networks were hacked sometime in 2008 when hackers installed malicious software on its computer systems to seize card data from the organization's networks. The company said that it discovered the invasion after MasterCard and Visa alerted it of suspicious activity. The company immediately sought help from forensic experts who quickly started scanning its servers. According to Robert H.B. Baldwin Jr., President and Chief Financial Officer of Heartland, the organization found clues of the intrusion in the 3rd week of January 2009 and instantly reported the incident to federal law enforcement official.
