Spammers Creating Problems for Legitimate Pharmaceutical Companies

Massive number of spam mails advertising bogus and harmful Viagra and fake penis enlargement solutions are being generated over the Internet every day. This leads to various problems for legitimate and popular companies. According to an estimate by security provider Ferris Research, spam could lead American companies to lose a huge $10 Billion per year in lost productivity, infrastructure costs and other administration and extra bandwidth related costs to deal with and eliminate the offensive spam.

The security provider also said that spammers are always look for ways to invade people's inboxes and for this, they are using more and more sophisticated methods to penetrate standard e-mail security while escaping detection.

Thus, firms receiving the pharmaceutical related e-mails said that to discard millions of suspicious e-mails sent by spammers every day, they have to deploy even more sophisticated spam filters.

According to the security specialists at Ferris Research, the real impact of the spam problem falls on legitimate companies who want to send legitimate messages of their products like authentic Viagra and other medicinal drugs. But these companies fail in the endeavor as business houses increasingly use spam filters and other means of screening the messages.

In fact, the security specialists state that a few of these companies specializing in pharmaceuticals can't even send e-mails relating to routine R&D matters to their business clients because of the presence of spam filters as well as of the methods spammers apply to exploit them.

Commenting on the issue, Joshua Elicio, Director of Information Security at the Memorial Medical Center in New Mexico says spam filters can't distinguish a legitimate e-mail promoting erectile dysfunction remedy from a spam mail that attempts to sell the fake product, as reported by ukmedia news on January 21, 2009.

Security specialists also said that spam problems blurring pharmaceutical companies and doctors are not new. Some spammers have even offensively demanded doctors to take their website off the net or face serious consequences.
