Virus Attack Brings Down FBI Network

According to FBI the Federal Reserve Bureau, reports about a virus attack on its external e-mail network are true as also that the infection compelled the agency to close down the network as a measure of precaution.

A spokesman for the FBI said that the agency was assessing the problem on its uncategorized network, which was making an impact on a number of government agencies.

While nothing is known about the origin or type of the virus, the agencies' spokespeople said that use of the Net as well as the e-mail was temporarily restricted while experts evaluated the problem.

Understandably, hackers target FBI while they work for offshore intelligence agencies as well as criminal gangs. Also, they hate the agency as it has been effectively exposing as well as upsetting hacker operations. The FBI has been also hunting, detaining as well as prosecuting an increasing number of computer invaders or hackers.

Moreover FBI stated that about 48 hours had passed, since the detection of the problem, when the e-mail system was brought back to normal functioning across the network that was used basically for day-to-day e-mails and communications.

However, the FBI urgently pointed out that its internal, categorized network that was used for e-mails and communications regarding investigative and sensitive issues remained unaffected.

Yet the uncategorized network remains to be brought back to full functioning and till that is done, the Feds are in a state of huge embarrassment.

States a formal statement from FBI that from an abundantly implemented caution, the agency has temporarily imposed a restriction on allowing exchange of e-mail attachments on its external network so that its technicians can have the necessary time to examine those already in the network's e-mail. The examination is thought necessary to ensure that the agency spots and lessens the dangers facing the network, the statement adds.

Thus, say security specialists that the virus found on FBI systems emphasize the need to install patches routinely along with updating security software for both organization and individual computers.

Meanwhile, government agencies are required to report all security problems to US-Computer Emergency Readiness Team, according to specialists.
