Hackers Break in Website of Sidney Radio Show

A radio show in Sidney has been affected by a global Michael Jackson spam storm following the hack of its website to infect visitors with malware.

As per the news reports, cyber criminals hacked the website of a famous weekly dance show "Beatz Radio" that airs on every Friday night on FM 99.3. Hackers dropped a malicious file on the website that claimed of containing unseen pictures and videos of Michael Jackson.

Online security researchers have identified the file as a password-stealing Trojan that secretly installs itself on the targeted system and sends information of every keystroke back to hackers.

Moreover, links to a fake YouTube video were randomly sent to users across the world through a spam campaign that tried to exploit people's interest in Jackson death.

The National Computer Emergency Response Team for Australia 'Aus CERT' has said that some security groups and search engines have blacklisted the radio show's website. As a result, visitors to the website are alerted against the transmission of infection to their computers.

Tim Little, Chief of Beatz Radio, said that the malware had been removed from the website and it was now safe to visit, as reported by WAToday on July 2, 2009.

He further said that the radio show website had been hacked twice but this time it became public. In the first hack, criminals had placed pictures of dead babies and the information was written in the Turkish language. Fortunately, the website was inaccessible to the public.

Commenting on the issue, Jay Liew, Security Researcher at Websense, said that the incidences of hacking popular and legitimate websites were frighteningly rising, as reported by smh on July 2, 2009.

Meanwhile, security experts said that the incidence resemble to that of dentist in Queensland (Australia) whose website had been broken in by the Russian hackers few years ago and hosted pornographic material. Although the website had been cleaned since then, this year it was found that it was on the Federal Government's blacklist and would remain blocked for the Australian Internet users under the upcoming web filtering scheme.
