Koobface Exploits Malware Website to Infect PCs

Internet security experts have recently released a warning that Galwehr.com is a malicious website that can attack users Facebook account, as per the news reports of NOWPUBLIC on December 22, 2009.

Details reveal that Galewher.com or Galewher.cOm Facebook virus is none other than the Koobface Trojan. It (Koobface) can perform a number of malicious activities like stealing private details (which include monetary credentials such as credit card information), deceptive alerts, issuing forged scanners, sending messages to Facebook or MySpace contacts, etc with dangerous links. Every time users click on these links, the virus takes control of user's Facebook account. Therefater, vicious messages are sent to all of those who are on the friends' list or the targeted users.

For the recently found virus, it is understood that the messages are diverse depending upon the users.

While some of the users get messages which claim that they can win some bonus Christmas money, others receive message informing that Galewher.cOm will help AdSense publishers to earn extra money.

Moreover, Galewher.com or Galewher.c0m Facebook virus appears to be a witty virus. Because of its potentiality and cleverness, users are told not to install anything while looking for details about the Koobface Trojan or Galewher.com Facebook Trojan.

It seems that Facebook has accepted the existence of the virus and is trying to fix the problem.

Facebook has not verified the problem, but some users are claiming that the Galewher.cOm virus has expanded from Facebook to Twitter; thus, users should be alert while clicking on links chiefly when URL shortners are famous.

Security experts caution that hackers have launched numerous campaigns in the wake of festive season, particularly with Koobface developing numerous variants. Some of the Koobface groups had been preparing for harmful campaigns since November 2009.

Panda Security tracing one such recent variant of the "Koobface" worm from its labs in Spain suggests users not to respond or follow the links embedded in uninvited Facebook messages, as per the reports published by SOFTPEDIA in the third week of December 2009.

Finally, security experts claim that apart from operating the latest updated antivirus software, firewalls and security patches, users should be careful of Facebook's security page which cautions about the recent dangers.
