Hackers Target Personal Websites to Infect ComputersThe Computers experts have revealed that the increasing personal websites are providing various options to hackers to exploit the vulnerabilities of Internet, as reported by UPI on July 22, 2010. Security holes in the websites are constantly being identified by the hackers to harm users in different ways since the users get entry to prominent websites, which allow the non-technical users to start more complicated websites. One of the easiest methods for the hackers is to change a website slightly so that the change cannot be detected with a naked eye. Describing the methods used by the hackers, security researchers state that malware is placed inside the pages in such way that whenever a link is clicked (on that site), the user is directed to the hacker's website which looks authentic. However, the website normally tries to extract user's personal information and infect the user's computer. Michalis Faloutsos, a Computer Scientist, reveals that websites are a huge threat for the security of computers, as reported by UPI on July 22, 2010. He also adds that this is just the initial stage and each website can be vulnerable. The number of unprotected websites has been growing day-by-day, with the success of those companies which normally offer to host the sites (having simple guidelines and technical assistance) at a very low price. The customers, who develop such websites, don't need the required training to secure their web-pages, and they are targeted by the malware and transgression. Little changes in the malware codes are constantly made by the hackers. As a result, the antivirus software faces difficulty to detect the changes and properly guarding a website from further attacks. According to Anirban Banerjee (a Computer Scientist), the hackers are getting smarter to avoid detection and exploring different techniques into unsecure areas, as reported by LIVE SCIENCE on July 16, 2010. He also mentions that malicious computer codes are inserted by the hackers in web-pages, advertisements, PDF files and other documents. Due to high traffic volume, many big and successful websites, involving bigger business publications, have been a victim of such attacks. After getting infected, they have to shut down the website till the problem is rectified. Related article: Hackers Redirect Windows Live Search to Malicious Sites ยป SPAMfighter News - 8/4/2010 |
