Indiana State Police Warns Against New Email Scam

The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Division, Fort Wayne, USA Post, warns the customers about a new email scam spreading around the District using the name of a local bank.

Deven Hosteller (a Detective) states that an employee of LaGrange County got an mail on his private account, specifically from Fort Financial Credit Union, as reported by wane on July 22, 2010.

The abovementioned email stated that the customer was requested to furnish his information because the bank had seen an unusual and highly risky activity on his account. Further, it told the customer to download a particular form attached with the mail and see it in a browser window.

A form was attached with the email below the text, with the Fort Financial logo. The recipients were asked to provide their personal information like name, credit card details, expiry date, credit card verification code and credit card PIN number.

Steve Collins, FFCU President and CEO, Fort Financial, states that the organization never asks its customers to provide their personal account details through email, telephone, etc, according to a report by wane on July 22, 2010.

Hence, the State Police warns the customers not to provide their personal account details through mail until and unless the sender is verified. Beware of any money related requests send through email, especially if it mentions 'Urgent' or 'Necessary', as such kind of emails are regularly sent to many people. The Authorities also advises the customers to avoid clicking on the links and never provide details in any of the email related websites.

The customers should always remember that such emails possibly contain harmful software to infect the computer, and are specially designed to hack passwords and other personal identification data.

Sgt. Ron Galaviz, commented that if any customer feel cheated by such kind of scams or any related scam, then they should first contact their respective banks and later the police, according to the report published by fwdailynews on July 23, 2010.
