US - Leading Malware Producer

As per the July 2010 threat statistics from managed security company Network Box, the United States remains the number one malware producer which has extended its production by around one per cent (to 14.6%).

In addition, the firm revealed that India witnessed a slight increase in production (from 9.2% to 9.5%). Thus, it is placed at number two on the charts. With more than three percent decline in the production, Korea dropped to the third place. The UK has escalated from sixth to fourth place on the virus charts, producing 5% of the world's viruses now. This has led to an increase of 2% in the virus production from the UK, while Russia recorded a decrease of over 3%.

It is interesting to notice that Brazil doesn't feature among the top 10 virus producers in July 2010 although it was accountable for 15% of the total global viruses in January 2010. The country produces 2.7% less number of spam than it did. (It is now accountable for 4.9%).

Commenting on the statistics, the security experts said that figures showed at what rate the cybercrime 'industry' growing. The hackers work alone or in small teams with the help of infected computers networked. These groups can run their business in better way than legal organizations. Besides, they move their operation bases to less strict laws destinations in case they feel the risk of being captured.

Simon Heron, Internet Security Analyst at Network Box, states that governments are facing a lot of difficulty at the moment. Hence, there is a need to cut down expenditure to balance the books, but there have been evidences which prove that cybercrime increases at times of economic strain, as per the news published by Network Box on July 28, 2010.

Cybercrime is a crime which crosses geographic borders and all governments should cooperate with each other to deal with the problem, he further adds.

The security experts state that there is an urgent need to find a global solution to the problem, if not, the situation will get worse. The experts further add that the world might witness more countries with less malware because cyber gangs spread throughout the globe, making it tougher for the law enforcement agencies to deal with the problem.
