People Alerted About Zeus 2.0 Botnet Focusing UK Market

According to the Security Company Trusteer, it has discovered the botnet Zeus 2.0 inflicting the Internet for the first time as it targets clients of financial institutions in U.K.

Actually, while researching about Zeus 2.0 spanning 6 months, Trusteer found this malicious network. Moreover according to the company, the version is of an unprecedented nature ever-built on Zeus. Nonetheless, there are more cases all over, it explained.

The company further disclosed that controlled and operated from Eastern Europe, the botnet contains a gigantic collection of infected PCs counting 100,000 of which 98% zombies are located in Britain.

Says chief executive Mickey Boodaei at Trusteer, the botnet is extremely focused and it targets Britain's market of citizens and financial institutions. V3.co.uk published this on August 3, 2010.

Another top official, Trusteer's chief technology officer Amit Klein says that a particularly worrying aspect about the botnet is that it doesn't merely halt at stealing usernames and passwords. V3.co.uk published this.

Reportedly, by using the botnet, perpetrators have been digging at various kinds of potentially revenue-generating and profitable user credentials such as Internet account IDs, banking login details, debit and credit card numbers, bank statements, different account kinds with their balances, client-side permits, browser cookies, FTP passwords, and login details pertaining to social-networking and e-mail accounts.

Notably, Klein adds that by digging at cookies and client-side permits, the online crooks are capable of pulling out plenty of additional data with which they can enhance their illegitimate admission into the online accounts of those users.

He further adds that as the fraudsters manage to control users' computers from the remote, download data or execute arbitrary files on the systems, these criminals can apparently add web-pages to an active Web-session. Consequently, they can initiate any transaction they want alternatively extract further user-data, Klein explains. TMCNews reported this on August 3, 2010.

Meanwhile, security researchers in their remark about the botnet stated that it yet again demonstrated how regional malware grew for cyber-criminals executing segmented and targeted attacks against consumers. Importantly, Trusteer is reporting all information it has about the botnet to UK's law enforcement bodies.
