Increase in Trojan attack throughout July – Sunbelt Software

A report regarding the top ten widespread malware attacks (during the month of July) was released by Sunbelt Software on 4rth August, 2010. The list was based on the report collected from scans done by the firm on a monthly basis.

According to Sunbelt Software's available data (for July, 2010), two particular malware - Trojan and the Downad/Conficker worm, targeted the users all over the month.

As reported by Infosecurity Magazine on 5th August, 2010, Sunbelt Software's manager of malware handling, Francis Montesino stated that Trojan.Win32.Generic!BT is a universal threat which includes many malicious softwares.

She added that quite often, this recognizes the downloaders used with fake security programs, mainly know as scareware.

She also revealed that, after such scareware are downloaded, the fakes portray to scan the computer for malware, and then flash wrong warning that the computer is infected. They try to cheat the user by convincing them to buy useless security softwares which include more malware.

Two other common discoveries that were there in the top ten list were Trojan.Win32.Meredrop with 1.01% and Trojan.Win32.Generic!SB.0 with 0.92%. Trojan.Win32.Meredrop is a global discovery for a large number of trojans which install and run many varieties of malware on a user's computer.
