UK Ranked Top Spamming Country in Western Europe

Trend Micro the security company just conducted a research for October 2010 according to which, the U.K is the country in Western Europe which sends out the maximum spam.

The vendor for Information Technology observes that though 2010 is coming to an end, there's clearly no slowing down of the threat scenario.

Specifically, the research discovered that 9.77% of all e-mail junk flowed out of U.K.

Moreover, Trend Micro's study reveals that 25% of the total number of scams which cyber-criminals designed during October 2010 and which the company detected comprised advertising or commercial spam. Through this spam, cyber-criminals have been presenting extraordinary inducements for adopting easy and fast weight-loss items and schemes.

One more sphere that was hot within classified advertisements on the Internet was "business opportunities" wherein offers for making quick bucks by using home computers during free time replaced offers for working from residence to create crafts and arts alternatively stuffing envelopes. In fact, job-oriented spam was on No.3, accounting for 10% of the entire spam delivered, the report states.

Remarking about these discoveries, Senior Security Advisor Rik Ferguson at Trend Micro stated that as per the research, in spite of media extensively reporting of increased Internet threats of other kinds, cyber-criminals still preferred conventional spam. Itpro.co.uk published this on November 18, 2010.

Trend Micro's research, interestingly, was introduced during November 15-19, 2010 at the Get Safe Online program that sought to raise consciousness of Internet dangers.

Said Managing Director Tony Neate of the UK-held Get Safe Online program, it was very important that people were made wary of the dangers as also the ways for tackling them towards making sure they surfed on the Internet confidently and safely. V3.co.uk published this on November 18, 2010.

Neate explained that the program was regarding creating awareness among the general public that the above threats were real, however, by having the appropriate education, it could keep experiencing a secure Internet surfing.

Eventually, to remain secure online, Trend Micro recommends that people should verify the source or authenticity of e-mails along with their attachments, if any, lest they get uninvited messages.
