Cyber-criminals Exploit Justin Bieber Once More

Researchers from Sophos the security company caution people that spam mails carrying web-links to status updates as well as wall posts are circulating across Facebook. The link named "Justin Bieber got erection in public" if clicked, however, drops malware and disseminates the spam.

Furthermore, the malware pretends to be authentic software. Also, if any user follows the link he's asked to allow the launch of the software that Facebook apparently validated. Additional clicks produce surveys, which are unrelated to Justin Bieber alternatively a video footage, as per a promise, that shows embarrassed Bieber in public, the researchers observe.

Moreover, Sophos outlines that the spammers have crafted the surveys to lure recipients with giving away awards in exchange for completing the surveys, although there's no means for validating if anyone truly gets an award. The only beneficiary apparently is the spammer as the system of revenue within the campaign includes a commission associated with every survey answered.

An interesting point here is that even when an end-user doesn't answer a survey, the malicious program sends out the spam message to each of his friends on Facebook.

Worryingly, this incident represents cyber-criminals exploiting Justin Bieber yet again during November 2010 as Sophos reports.

The company, during the 1st week of November 2010, reported that one particular spam campaign spread across Facebook wherein users encountered a malevolent web-link that exclaimed that Justin Bieber strikes female without any reason following which Facebook users were invited towards clicking a post, which pointed to one girl, while a logo of Fox News appeared on the page's corner.

Owing to that scam, users were suggested that they shouldn't click, since when anyone performed a program, and tried planting a Facebook malware, the latter sought that person's consent so that updates could be implanted onto his or her wall that enabled the scammer to gain admission into his or her contact list. And for those who acquiesced with the request, a fraud survey emerged which promised an iPad if they completed the survey following which, the malware dispatched messages to each and every friend of theirs as also posted a web-link.
