E-mail Scam Announcing Lottery Prize Hits Kauai County

Kauai County Police of USA has issued an alert to the residents of Kauai for remaining vigilant about a currently-circulating lottery e-mail fraud that's masquerading online as a Shell Petroleum sweepstake. Kauai.hawaiinewsnow.com published this on December 22, 2011.

Notably, Shell Petroleum is an oil and gas enterprise that caters to global demands. The fraudulent electronic mail supposedly from it addressing the recipient as 'Shell Award Winner' tells him that based on the outcomes obtained from the company's yearly Award/Grant lottery game that ended during December 2011, the company with pleasure is informing him that his e-mail id has come out as one fortunate winner within the '2011 Shell End of the Year Award.' Consequently, he's eligible for a total 500,000 Great British Pounds in reference to number KPL/09-002/JA of Ticket No. SPDC-06/1055, that'll soon get paid to him. However, presently he should contact the claims agent that has been assigned his name to fast become aware about the directions regarding the claim's redemption as well as get the prize-award paid thereof, the e-mail explains.

Subsequently, the e-mail further tells the victim for dispatching one 'self' check, amount not disclosed, before he becomes entitled towards getting the lottery cash.

Here, if any end-user sends the check and it gets cashed, the so-called company would erase all traces of it with the victim left with nil fund his way.

Thus, Investigative Services Bureau's Capt. Kaleo Perez recommended people that they shouldn't ever transfer cash to any unknown entity. Similarly incase anybody transferred money to a person through a check but in return was asked for a self check then it was inevitably a scam, Perez warned. Kauai.hawaiinewsnow.com published this.

Furthermore, according to Perez, people must remain wary about the above scams, while anybody feeling doubtful of one should notify about it by calling the hotline-number of Kauai Police.

Eventually, a lottery scam hasn't just hit the residents of Kauai County lately. During December 2011 itself, authorities of Kansas State alerted end-users of scammers who e-mailed or telephoned them telling they were winners of an offshore lottery prize despite them not participating in any lottery competition.
