Online Broker ETrade of ANZ Bank Shutdown Following Cyber-assault

E*Trade the second most extensively used online broker in Australia, and part of ANZ Bank, lately closed a few of its services for 2011 Christmas as also 2012 New Year holidays because of a cyber assault, which occurred from overseas. Smartcompany.com.au reported this on January 12, 2012.

Formerly there were hazards on the technology systems of the online broker; however, on January 4, 2012, it reported getting victimized with a DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) assault, which inundated the brokerage firm with innumerable unwanted junk e-mails that resulted in its website's closure.

Explaining about the assault, Stephen Ries Spokesperson of ANZ stated that it involved many single PCs repeatedly sending queries to get information in order that the victim's inputs became so overwhelmed that it could not deliver its services in response to genuine queries.
