Romanian Duo gets Jail after Pleading Guilty to Hacking

Two individuals of Romanian origin namely 27-yr-old Cezar Butu and 28-yr-old Lulian Dolan pleaded guilty to having been involved during one scam worth millions of dollars when several hundred traders were attacked in USA, some of them being Subway restaurants, published softpedia.com dated September 18, 2012.

According to United States DOJ (Department-of-Justice), Dolan admitted that he once connived towards carrying out PC fraud as well as twice connived towards carrying out access device manipulation whereas Butu agreed to have connived towards carrying out access device manipulation.

It's reported that the two accused infiltrated the computers belonging to numerous firms within USA so they could filch payment card data, which was then used for making illegal transactions as also illicitly moving funds out of the manipulated A/Cs.

Also, that the attacks could be effectively conducted, Dolan along with one more Romanian associate named Adrian Tiberiu Oprea, who too will be prosecuted, initially scrutinized the Internet from afar for spotting unsecured Point-of-Sale (POS) systems using some kind of RDAs (Remote Desktop Software Applications). These applications enabled Dolan to hack into the chosen, weak POS systems from the remote, frequently deciphering passwords whenever it required acquiring administrative access. And once a system was hijacked, Dolan planted keystroke logging software onto it with which he intercepted and saved data after it had been fed inside the traders' point-of-sale mechanisms alternatively swiped through them.

The DOJ reports that Dolan, from time to time, remotely intruded the traders' hijacked point-of-sale systems and regained card-data of the customers that he subsequently transferred electronically to different 'dump websites,' which Oprea already kept ready via establishing them in time. Dolan apparently, filched about 6,000 card-owners' data from the traders' computer databank.

Meantime, different from Dolan, Butu rather than commit theft, persuaded Oprea towards making available the card-data and other necessary details to him so he could conduct fake withdrawals.

Eventually, trial has given Dolan a 7-year imprisonment, while Butu faces a 21-month jail sentence.

Notably, both criminals are well-known in the manner Secret Service representatives, pretending to be attractive females, lured them towards traveling to USA, in addition to for their offences.
