Breyer Horses Online Site is Malware Tainted


A lot of personal information with data on credit/debit cards too that belonged to consumers who bought items via the Breyer Horses online site namely BreyerHorses.com, may've gotten stolen with the aid of malware, published hackintel.com in news on October 23, 2014.

It maybe noted that BreyerHorses.com is one unit under Reeves International, Inc., established during 1946. The company sketches, produces and sells play animals, particularly horses along with associated game items or items for home décor or simple collection. Reeves International's main office is located in Pequannock, New Jersey (USA).

According to the company, an anonymous person planted the malicious software onto the server of BreyerHorses.com. Between March 31, 2013 and October 6, 2014, the particular malware stayed active covering an 18-month period. Therefore, all people who used the website for shopping during that period are likely to be victims of the security hack. People not shopping then are possibly safe although it isn't certain if the malicious program got activated beyond those eighteen months.

Reportedly, there's no official declaration of how many users had their payment data hacked within the incident.

The hacked content includes victims' names, addresses, passwords and usernames for the website, account numbers of their payment cards, and expiry dates and security codes of the same.

CFO Arthur Minnocci of Reeves International within an official letter to the impacted customers tells that his company wishes to suggest certain measures the customers can adopt for safeguarding themselves from ID-theft or fraud. One, they must read the statements of their payment card accounts soon for finding out any possible unnatural activity else discrepancy. Two, they must stay watchful and keep on checking their statements. Incase something appears that they don't understand alternatively which appears dubious alternatively, incase they feel a fraudulent transaction has occurred they must inform their bank/issuer of payment card instantly. Oag.ca.gov published this letter, October 23, 2014.

Meanwhile, it isn't just the BreyerHorses.com site that scammers hijacked during October 2014. For, Websense a security company uncovered the well-known Popular Science, a science reference website, which got hacked leading to diversion of visitors onto an intermediate site that dangerously contained malware.
