Irish Enterprises Experience Upsurge in Online Scams; ISME

According to the ISME (Irish Small and Medium Enterprises) Association, Ireland is witnessing an ongoing increase in scams on the Internet aimed at the country's businesses, thus reported irishtimes.com dated June 22, 2015.

As per a warning note by ISME, these online frauds involve e-mails with persuasive but phony e-mail ids as well as fraudulent websites, with scams targeting international business entities as particularly prominent.

According to an estimation by the Association, the said crimes were costing massive sums therefore it advises small-and-medium enterprises (SMEs) towards executing policies that would stop the fresh as well as complex swindles against unwitting business organizations.

ISME asserts that it has received numerous calls during April-May 2015 from businesses that were getting flooded with fraudulent deliveries, deceptive invoices and fake requests via postal mail alternatively over the Net that fraudsters were orchestrating.

A particular online fraud attack that ISME outlines has bogus e-mails impersonating Ireland's taxing authority the Revenue Commissioners asking for financial details for tax processing.

The scam shows to what extent and cunningness fraudsters are ready to move towards swindling gullible enterprises.

Telling more about the well-organized frauds, Mark Fielding Chief Executive Officer of ISME stated that the scams were especially existent at the time of vacations since fraudsters knew that often senior management mightn't get to attend office that led low-ranking employees to decide issues. That could result in an inexperienced employee ceiling a contract on behalf of the company that particularly should've been avoided, Fielding explained. Thejournal.ie reported this dated June 22, 2015.

According to Fielding, the majority of such scams related to bills towards subscribing to get Internet-based business directories.

Disturbingly, there's little easy solution towards eradicating this spurious practice therefore the sole way businessmen can safeguard themselves is by exercising utter caution while constantly training their staff. A holistic training of the business team is required for remaining watchful as well as wary about the numerous dangers facing businesses. It isn't inevitable for enterprises to get victimized with a scam attack; these can be eschewed provided there are the right procedures along with training for everyone in the organization, states ISME.
