E-mail Scam Targets Florida Lottery Patrons

The Tallahassee (Florida, USA) situated Florida Lottery has cautioned citizens that one fake lottery e-mail campaign has been launched wherein scamsters are distributing fraudulent electronic mails among the public for acquiring their financial and other personal information as the messages impersonate Florida Lottery, published wctv.tv dated July 10, 2015.

It maybe noted that an organization, which the government runs within Florida State of USA, Florida Lottery (FL) emerged during 1988.

The scam e-mail contains FL's logo as well as shows the head office of FL's postal address on the letterhead. More attempts for making the e-mail look genuine include references of other organizations like Microsoft, LinkedIn, eBay and Google.

Reportedly, recipients of the fake electronic mail find they're winners of a prize as the message suggests them to get in touch with the "Contact Person" given so he/she can claim the prize. There's also request for giving his/her general information for making the claim. Although no request is made for giving the user's financial information, however, soon as he/she might write to the listed contact person, he/she would subsequently be requested for giving his financial details along with a fee/tax for apparently getting the prize.

Meanwhile according to FL, the organization doesn't get in touch with players for notifying them that they're winners of a prize. But not when if players participated in one repeat chance drawing or promotional game executed on FL's authorized website alternatively social networking sites. Anybody getting a sample of the above kind of e-mail is urged not to answer it. To get additional information as also other suggestions for safeguarding oneself, consumers should visit flalottery.com. For informing about any lottery scam, they require dialing (850) 487-7730 for the Security Division of Florida Lottery.

Moreover according to FL's authorized site, one shouldn't ever disclose his/her financial details like payment card numbers neither through phone nor e-mail to anybody pledging membership or cash prize from FL.

Besides, consumers should purchase the Lottery's tickets by visiting only approved retailers and calling the FL District Office in their locality to get the nearest retailer's location address.
