SoftLayer Declared World’s Biggest Spamming Source – Spamhaus

SoftLayer, a USD 2 Billion cloud computing firm and daughter company of software giant IBM is the biggest spamming source across the world, disclosed anti-spamming organization Spamhaus, as per news published by theregister.co.uk on October 23, 2015.

After being acquired by IBM in mid-2013, SoftLayer, and ever since then Internet forums have been flooded with chats as regards the amount of cyber mocking SoftLayer patrons have been spewing.

Spamhaus ranks SoftLayer as number one when it comes to its top ten worst offenders stressing that it has 685 spamming blocks. Unicom-sc, placed next on the list, has only 232 such spamming blocks.

Spamhaus notes spamming continues thanks usually to or complicit telecommunications.

Spamhaus confirms that SoftLayer has long been tagged as a "responsible ISP," and one that has made chief contributions to both the anti-spamming and security industries. Spamhaus in the blog post adds that SoftLayer probably loosened its client vetting procedures in an attempt to scoop up a larger portion of business in the rapidly escalating Brazilian market.

But regretfully for IBM, "Cyber crooks from Brazil took benefit of SoftLayer's vast resources and shoddy vetting procedures. The malware campaign, particularly, abused fallacies in SoftLayer's automated provisioning measures to acquire a notable number of Internet Protocol address ranges, that they then employed for sending spam emails and for hosting malware websites, commented Spamhaus, as per news published by siliconangle.com on October 23, 2015.

Spamhaus findings are backed by security firm Cloudmark, said Independent Security Blogger, Brian Krebs of krebsonsecurity.com on October 21, 2015. He noted that Cloudmark acknowledged that SoftLayer generated more spam in Q3-2015 than any other ISP, thereby, accounting for a gigantic 42% of the worlds outbound spam email.

SoftLayer defended its stand by declaring that all notorious spamming accounts had been removed in this individual spike as were highlighted by Spamhaus, published pcworld.com on October 22, 2015. It added that it continues to work with government authorities, anti-spamming initiatives like Spamhaus and security analysts to uproot future activities such as this one.
