As Apple Becomes more Successful, Malware Attacks Too Rise

According to the Carbon Black Threat Research group and Bit9 the security company that recently published one fresh cyber-security research paper, the increasing success of Apple is a good reason why cyber-criminals are becoming more and more active in launching fresh malicious software targeted at Macs, published mnrdaily.com dated November 1, 2015.

An assessment by the group included that of over 1,400 distinct malware strains for OS X that showed certain incredible changes.

According to the group, when the data's different trends became discernible, one particular aspect appeared noteworthy i.e., in 2015, OS X related malicious programs were most abundant compared to any other year. Businessinsider.in reported this dated November 1, 2015.

Within just the year 2015, the total number of malicious programs created for OS X is thus far fivefold that of such malware between 2010 and 2014. Also, there has been an increasing market share of Mac when the device from Apple is now becoming ever-more main stream. Apple is now a familiar term in the enterprise arena, so employees of increasing number of organizations are using Macs that cyber-criminals are attacking in anticipation of acquiring admission into critical employee data.

Incidentally, during 2015, the number of malware strains for Mac OS was detected as 984 against just 180 during 2010-14. Nevertheless, in relation with Microsoft's Windows OS, Mac OS malicious programs continue to be less in number.

Besides, the majority of classified malicious programs for Mac OS aren't so sophisticated such that they are actually easily removable in comparison with those targeted at Windows OS, the research study finds. Almost half of the fresh malicious programs created for Mac pertain to advertising commercials that yield money to the programs' creators. Nevertheless, it is being warned that the latest steep rise in Mac malicious programs mustn't be regarded casually even though it's less than Windows malware, since there is a possibility of more malware creators focusing on Apple's OS during the forthcoming period. It is also being cautioned that there might be advanced Mac OS malicious programs released soon that will prove a greater danger, hard to eradicate, the study concludes.
