Year-end makes Both Online Shoppers and Scammers Busy

With year-end holidays about to start, people have again become busy making orders for various gifts and other consumer items over the Internet, and not wait for the December vacation when there is a rush in business often causing delivery problems. The time is as well profitably convenient for cyber-criminals when they increase their malware and phishing attacks that usually involve e-mails crafted for appearing genuine messages from renowned companies doing business of gift parcel delivery, outline specialists on Internet security.

Unsurprisingly therefore, Comodo a security company has had its security researchers notice one widespread spam run attacking DHL the shipping business' 2.5m consumers and businesses all over the world.

In that campaign, the fraudulent spam mail spoofed to make it appear from 'DHL Worldwide' carrying DHL's typical colors and logo requests recipients for checking a parcel's tracking number enclosed while also tell if their addresses whereto deliver the parcel is correct.

Now, if the recipient becomes convinced and follows the given web-link namely DHL.com/tracking then he would land on a page that would try to grab his login info and password.

Subsequently once the recipient, a victim of the phishing, confirms his address and also types in his password, he would find one web-page telling his e-mail is now recorded and made up to date, with the victim thinking he has made a genuine transaction, explains Comodo. Scmagazine.com reported this in news dated November 17, 2015.

But the password and login details actually go to the online crooks, who then use them for accessing data and account details, alternatively sell them to other crooks for illegal earnings.

Technology Director Fatih Orhan for Comodo and the company's anti-spam laboratory says that by analyzing the particular URL address and Internet Protocol address, the researchers managed in recognizing the above phishing scam while make the public wary about it. Itproportal.com reported this in news on November 17, 2015.

In the meantime, cyber-criminals targeting DHL this month hasn't happened for just one time. Earlier MailGuard another security company effectively detected and halted a malicious e-mail campaign of online criminals pretending to be DHL.
