Teen Boy Hacks Actresses’ Social Media, Cloud Accounts, Downloads Photos and Demands Ransom


Authorities arrested a boy, aged 16, because he allegedly hacked into Tina Chopra a TV star's social media and cloud storage accounts, and then demanded INR 5Lakhs if she didn't want her private photos leaked on the Internet, reported timesofindia.indiatimes.com dated December 27, 2015.

Apparently a phishing electronic mail from the teenager to Ms. Chopra helped the former obtain the latter's username and password of her Gmail account. Using those credentials, the juvenile then infiltrated the actor's other accounts of whose passwords he changed. Thereafter, the boy took down the actor's personal pictures, sent them to her through the popular WhatsApp program and began the threat hoping to acquire the ransom. But when Ms Chopra asked the boy for coming over and taking the sum, the boy refused while asserted she deposit the cash into certain bank A/C.

There was a savings A/C the boy created in certain Madhya Pradesh bank and named it after his friend while also supplied the required documents having that friend's name. He then kept with himself the account's debit card followed with instructing Ms. Chopra to put the money into that account.

Police said that Tina Chopra lodged a complaint at Malad's Bangur Nagar PS regarding this unknown individual who had acquired access of her iCloud, Gmail, Instagram, Facebook as well as WhatsApp accounts from where he had downloaded her private videos and pictures, and also the threat he made to her.

The complaint lodged was registered in a case within the purview of section 385 of the Indian Penal Code claiming an instance of extortion, as well as section 66B along with section 66C of the Information Technology Act claiming an instance of phishing. Subsequently, with news coming in that officials spotted the accused within Dahisar East, investigators arrested him. They then unearthed the cell-phones he'd utilized for performing the hacks. They further confiscated the earlier mentioned debit card from him along with other documents in connection with the offense.

According to police, initial probe had shown that the teen had likewise attempted at hacking other persons' accounts as well who belonged to the advertising/film industry.
