Acecard, a most Dangerous Banking Malware for Android

The Anti-Malware Research Team of Kaspersky Lab has described Acecard, one fresh banker Trojan targeting Android devices, a most perilous malware for the device that was ever seen, and especially points out its great versatility with respect to the activities it's capable of doing.

In the months of October-December 2015, Kaspersky Lab researchers observed a remarkable numerical rise in mobile banking assaults across Australia. It was found that this rise was an outcome of just one banker Trojan that is Acecard. Betanews.com posted this, February 22, 2016.

With the passage of time, Acecard creators rather than abandon their ware gradually enhanced its capabilities, making a 'not yet valuable' sniffer malware become one strong tool for phishing which competed the greatest of all complicated desktop Trojans.

Also according to Kaspersky, Acecard presently imitates perfectly, 32 banking as well as payment services, particularly PayPal; 17 Russian banks' payment interfaces having SMS-based validation phase; and Google Music and Google Play payment screens.

However, Acecard owners haven't ceased to develop their Trojan. They increased its phishing overlay features that embraced the Facebook, Twitter and Instagram social networking websites, the WhatsApp, Viber and Skype IM applications, and the Gmail client of Android. The overlays are not utilized for phishing off users' bank-related data rather for capturing login credentials uploaded onto the command-and-control servers of Acecard.

The Trojan usually proliferates through spam mails which entices end-users towards intermediate application stores. Frequently also, it's touted as one Adobe Flash edition to be used in Android devices alternatively as one pornography application known as PornoVideo again for Android. Here it needs mention that during 2012, Adobe was no longer evolving Android's Flash client; therefore end-users shouldn't anymore believe this 4-yr-old joke.

Acecard creators are the same cyber-crooks' gang which created Android's first TOR-based Trojan along with the foremost ransomware for smart-phones. This observation is based on the two malware having same type of code lines as well as utilizing identical CnC server.

Meanwhile, for staying off Acecard's infection, Kaspersky suggests avoiding downloading suspicious software, avoiding pursuing dubious web-links, and loading one renowned security program while maintaining it updated.
