Most of the People want to see Shut down of the Dark Web

The dark web is considered as a very bad place by most of the people, and they think that it should be "shut down". The dark web - those internet parts is simply accessible by particular web browsers like Tor - is well-known among criminals for hiding their illegal websites, like notorious Silk Road marketplace.

Latest study of websites on the dark web reveals that around 57% of them hosted activities such as drugs and cybercrime, along with illegal content like violent extremism and illegitimate porn. However, the dark web hidden services are too used for good - like by activists of human rights, journalists and whistleblowers to look after their identities.

Ipsos, a market research company and the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), a non-partisan, Toronto-based think tank, reveal some new findings of a new series of reports on Internet security and trust.

Thewhir.com posted on March 30th, 2016, stating that the question of whether authorities should have access to data stored by third-parties has been a hot topic because Apple controversially refused to assist the FBI in unlocking an iPhone owned by one of the suspects in the San Bernardino killings.

India, Indonesia and Mexico, with 80% respondents, had the maximum percentage of respondents approving the shut down of the dark net. In South Korea, Kenya and Sweden, only 61% of respondents approved the shut down of the dark net which is the lowest among two dozen countries. Among Americans surveyed, 72% either strongly agreed or somewhat agreed that it should be shut down as compared to 73% of Canadians.

Although dark web have troubling applications, it offers the unidentified whistleblowing tools and privacy protections which have been adopted by organizations as mainstream like the Guardian, Facebook and the New Yorker.

Dark Web's massive negative perspective can be clarified by various prominent takedowns of Dark Web portals hosting child pornography. With almost any variant of ransomware which pops up now-a-days redirecting users to a website hosted by Tor, even individuals who have not knew about Silk Road case end up associating the Dark Web with criminal activity.
