IP3C Launched from Europe to Stop Online Intellectual Property Abuse

Europol the law enforcement organization of European Union together with EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) has started IP3C (Intellectual Property Crime Coordinated Coalition) that seeks to combat Intellectual Property (IP) misuse over the Internet. Europol says, there's unabated IP crime and it is continuously increasing across countries.

The IPC3 is set to provide support in the technical and operational fields for the benefit of law enforcement organizations along with other European Union (EU) partners so as to facilitate as well as synchronize criminal investigations across the borders; watch over and inform about related activities happening online; improve legal instruments' standardization and harmonization; and launch novel methodologies for combating IP crime.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) violators, in addition to making money directly by selling illegal content, also earn extra revenue by selling spaces for advertisements on their widely visited but unlawful websites.

The information gathered and relayed has been planned for utilization in framing Intellectual Property protection acts alternatively enhancing existing acts by making fresh amendments. Given below are the common methods/tactics that EUIPO categorizes as occurring in IPR misuse or theft.

"Shadow landscape" -divided according to 5 main types, each represented with 5 commercial models that violate IPR else are prone to IPR violation.

The five models got created utilizing case laws reported for the general mass; decisions made within different countries' top-level courts and bodies resolving disputes; as well as cases cited within commonly obtainable reports/studies. Bravenewcoin.com posted this, July 18, 2016.

According to Europol Director Rob Wainwright, it's laudable how excellently EUIPO, organizations enforcing law and order, and representatives from the private sector in Europe and other regions are cooperating to effectively probe and bring to justice IP abusers.

EUIPO's Executive Director Antonio Campinos explained that it was their organization's decision for joining forces with Europol towards expediting countering of online IPR infringement so citizens, law abiding enterprises and economy can be protected.

While no solution has been attempted towards combating the commercial models categorized, a declaration suggests that EUIPO in joint action with Europol is developing on one fresh effort for stopping piracy through the IP3C started in July.
