ISPs Encounter DDoS Attack Causing People Problem in Surfing

Hackers have been attacking ISPs (Internet Service Providers) across Mumbai in a way never done before that lowered the pace of Web-surfing within the city. The attacks' nature is a distributed denial-of-service condition executed at a massive scale of 200 GB/second, explained Brijesh Singh Inspector General of Police for the cyber-crime division to The Indian Express daily on July 23, 2016.

Brijesh continued that certain unidentified people have been hitting the ISPs' ports via sending hundreds of thousands of queries targeting one specific terminal at one specific hour that security experts described as a DDoS.

He said investigation into the attack was continuing even as police lodged an FIR so future such incidences could be checked.

Hathway a leading ISP in response to the assault urged its consumers that due to a worldwide hack targeting prominent ISPs N/w of India a major problem of reduced speed as well as fluctuations in Web-surfing was occurring so users are requested to give the company time for resolving the problem that won't be long as it had engaged highly dexterous technicians.

According to Vijay Mukhi, IT expert, A DDoS attack gets executed so that a server becomes extremely slow preventing users of the associated ISP to connect with other sources. For e.g. suppose it's an internet service provider like Seven Star or Hathway then its users would find their Internet speed receding because of the DDoS condition. Similarly a Web-surfer accessing online sites like Amazon or Flipkart, wouldn't have an enjoyable shopping experience with access speed getting extremely slow.

Moreover, with a DDoS kind of cyber assault, one can realize it when the Internet slows down or the person finds it hard to even open a website let alone browse it without interruptions. This is a situation when spam enormously increases or one cannot perform net banking or check own e-mail, Mukhi elaborates. Timesofindia.indiatimes.com posted this current month.

Understandably, the attack is spreading in eastern direction mainly China and Eastern Europe. Normally, a DDoS assault occurs due to competition among business organizations; however, the current incident appears as a way for hindering economic progress via creating problems in e-commerce.
