A Smart-Phone with Whatsapp, Facebook can have Only Facebook Target Ads in that Phone’s Context

WhatsApp is to introduce modifications in the privacy policy it maintains for the benefit of all its billion-and-more users. The service will be informing about the modifications to its users starting August 25, 2016. A particular change is regarding users choosing not to let their details get utilized in advertisements on Facebook; however, they'd have to let their data get circulated among members of the social-networking website.

WhatsApp's plan-of-action with its new measure is that when a user has WhatsApp and Facebook active on his smart-phone then Facebook can select phone-numbers on the WhatsApp list via a unique identifier of the phones.

The purpose for enabling Facebook with this is to have ad-targeting on its website where 1.71bn members are registered using the network actively every month. Here WhatsApp says it'll not allow its platform to be used either to flag banner ads or circulate spam.

A spokesperson of WhatsApp explained to The Economic Times the way it'll execute its plan. In the normal process a person accessing WhatsApp indicates his identity by giving his phone-number as also indicates the unique number for his device -a tablet or smart-phone- on which the WhatsApp application exists.

Suppose a user maintains WhatsApp and Facebook on his mobile-phone then Facebook with the help of the device identification number of that user can match the two platforms on that user's device by referring to his 'device information.'

WhatsApp provides a method for opting out from its service of providing data of a user to Facebook. Whenever an updated WhatsApp displays its latest terms-and-conditions to a user he just requires selecting "Read-and-Not-Agree." Subsequently, when the screen's lower margin flashes a box that requests the user's consent for giving his data to Facebook, he just requires annulling it. Softpedia.com posted this, August 25, 2016.

But incase the user agrees then he just requires clicking on 'Settings' then 'Account' and then putting cross against the box which displays 'Share-My-Account-Info.' The time for completing this is 30 days from his agreement.

In general, WhatsApp doesn't directly share/post users' WhatsApp number on any other platform, including Facebook, not even provide to advertisers.
