Breach of Privacy complaints by Duchess of Cambridge Upheld

Press standards watchdog has upheld the complaints by Duchess of Cambridge regarding privacy breach after her objection to the online stories concerning Prince George and herself.

Kate has complained to IPSO (Independent Press Standards Organisation) after publication of similar articles by OK! Magazine and Express.co.uk on their websites in May, which shows a photograph of George sitting in the police motorbike in Kensington Palace.

The stories that are in question contain photographs of George and her mother, Catherine. George is sitting on the police motorbike, with his small hands reaching bike's controls. His mother surrounded by 4 police officers can be seen beaming in background. Royalcentral.co.uk posted on September 15th, 2016, stating that the 4 officers are present in Kensington Palace, as a royal family member was supposed to reach there by helicopter.

The committee of IPSO said that pictures were taken when Prince George and Catherine thought having a "reasonable expectation of privacy'. IPSO committee also said: "they were engaged in a private activity; the images had been taken while they were on private, protected land where commercial photography is prohibited". The committee further added that no permission was obtained for taking and then publishing these images.

The committee arrived to same conclusion on separate rulings, and thus upheld both the complaints lodged by Duchess. The IPSO committee has acknowledged that, being the royal family members, complainants were public figures. "However, they were photographed standing within the grounds of their private home, in a position that was not easily visible to the photographer. They were not carrying out any official duties and they were unaware that they were being photographed", IPSO said.

It didn't accept that some kind of public interest was served with publication of images, which "simply showed Prince George playing on a police motorbike".
