Phoneys App’s Continuation on Apple’s iMessage Application Store now Undecided

Several people who initially used the iMessage stickers of Apple seemingly did so to trick others. They helped in spreading the sticker application namely Phoneys, which allows overwriting a buddy's missive with one's own, and placing it on the topmost position within the iMessage Application Store. Presently it seems Apple is preparing for eliminating it.

Phoneys, a creation of Adam Howell, are in fact quite original. Every phoney is accompanied with several stickers which appear as Messages bubbles which already contain phrases like "your sports team is better than my sports team," "you're my hero," and "you're so smart."

For using them, one just has to highlight on any of the phrases, drag it and place on the friend's message. This way the friend's actual message is covered with the sticker, making it look as though the original contact sent it. Eventually, it's very convincing, particularly because Apple's format is copied so well. Techshout.com posted this, October 4, 2016.

The problem, as per Phoneys' creator, was Howell's utilization of a font from Apple known as San Francisco, his preference for specific colors, and marketing the stickers like prank apps. However, Howell says he never called the Phoneys pranks although reports in media made reference of the term.

Now Howell must update the application for abiding with Apple's rules within a week as per Apple's direction otherwise the company would remove it from its store. For updating the Phoneys, Apple too has offered to make the bubbles appear as comic books. But Howell doesn't like the idea because it overrules the very intention with which Phoneys are created i.e. tricking recipients in a manner that they'd think they jotted down a different thing.

Howell says he hasn't yet decided if he should do as Apple says but then defeat the application's whole spirit else not update the product so Apple withdraws it. While the second alternative would let people who've already bought a Phoney for continuing using it and tricking others, there wouldn't be further takers.

Apple has given the deadline for revising the Phoneys app as October 6 after which it would otherwise be withdrawn.
