Russia Blamed by US for Recent Hacks

The government of US has officially accused Russia for hacking the computer networks of Democratic Party, and alleged that the Moscow was trying to "interfere" in US presidential election. Although Hillary Clinton along with US officials blamed the hackers of Russia for stealing over 19,000 e-mails from the officials of Democratic Party, it was the announcement on Friday when Obama administration pointed finger on Moscow for first time.

On Friday, Department of Homeland Security and the Office of National Intelligence jointly issued an official statement saying "disclosures of alleged hacked e-mails on sites like DCLeaks.com and WikiLeaks and by the Guccifer 2.0 online persona are consistent with the methods and motivations of Russian-directed efforts".

This is first time when Obama administration has made this type of announcement for publicly confirming that Russia is behind these hacks. Since worry grows regarding destabilizing influence of the events on forthcoming presidential elections, it is just not only a reassurance to American public that hacking source was identified. Wired.com posted on October 10th, 2016, stating that the statement theoretically might serve as official first step towards U.S. sanctions, or various other types of retaliation that is meant to punish Russia for its efforts of meddling in the American democracy.

Cybersecurity experts of US claim that 6 out of 8 IP addresses that are used by hackers of DNC are hosted on the King Servers, the Russian provider. However, owner of the company named Vladimir Fomenko, told the RT that law enforcement of US never contacted him.

Senator Cory Gardner, a lawmaker of Republican party, said that he will propose legislation for investigating on the cyber criminals of Russia as well as sanction them in case deemed appropriate. On Friday, Gardner issued a statement stating that "Russia's interference with American democracy is a direct threat to our political process".

Intelligence community as well as the FBI has spent many months in investigating the operation; and on a regular basis provide briefing to the congressional leaders on its findings, that they believe Moscow was responsible for the operation.

A higher-ranking administration official told that the officials just arrived at the maximum level of confidence in the assessment on the basis of the intelligent clues as well as outcomes of criminal investigation.
