WhatsApp 100 Pound Voucher Scam of Sainsbury - How to Protect Yourself

The offer comes through a message, apparently from the contacts of user, asking them to click on one malicious link for claiming their voucher.

The message reads as: "Hey, have you heard about this? Sainsburys it's giving away £100 gift cards. They are expanding their store network and they launched this promotion. Grab a gift card while it lasts. I got mine already."

However, the messages are scams, which can hijack phones of people and steal their personal credentials to put their money at great risk. Independent.co.uk posted on October 26th, 2016, stating that the message link looks to be a mode of claiming 100 Pound, but actually it is the mode of getting control of people's phones.

As per the security researchers, as malicious link was clicked by the victim, then the scammers can steal personal credentials of the victim, install the cookies on victim's phone or can add browser extension for serving them adverts. They can also infect the device of the victim with some other kind of malware or a virus.

A spokesman of Sainsbury said regarding fake message that: "we are aware of the issue and are advising customers to delete the message". WhatsApp is also aware regarding spam messages managing their way into its secured platform.

The highly-successful firm said, "we work diligently to reduce any spam messages that come through our system. Creating a safe space for users to communicate with one another is a priority."

Hence, people are informed to be careful about malicious messages, and should never click on link. Actually, the safest thing is to delete this message completely for being sure that you can never click on it even accidentally.

The rule says that it is best to believe that every link received by you is very risky - particularly when it is coming via WhatsApp or text message. You can be sure by having a look on the address, and in most extreme circumstances contacting the company before disclosing any information. For preventing occurrence of this type of scams in future, the company can be helped by messaging to WhatsApp.
