Another Person Arrested in Call Centre Fraud


A call centre fraud involving several million dollars transfer across countries had another person arrested November 3 for participating in conning innumerable US citizens so they paid off debts that never existed. The person Akhilesh Singh, aged 29, faced arrest after 74 people in line within the case, while the scam's key operator Sagar Thakkar, also named Shaggy, is fleeing.

An inhabitant of Mira Road, Singh apparently spent money for certain call centre situated in Hari Om IT Park. This call centre is suspected to have been a place to carry out the fake telephone calls. According to an officer, Singh was a chief partner of this call centre. He stated the arrest was possible following information provided to the police that Singh was hiding at Mira Road.

Investigating Officer ACP Mukund Hatote for the case stated Singh had aided Chandan Ajit Singh his brother-in-law to have the deal get through in starting Hari Om IT Park call centres close to Mira Road-situated Delta Garden building. The location of these call centres had been done on a building's 2nd and 4th floors in Hari Om IT Park. On November 4, Singh was made to appear at magistrate's court from were he was put under police's supervision till November 7. Singh had acquiesced with doing 3 rental agreements under which Hari Om's call centres would be hired, stated ACP Hatote. Mumbaimirror.indiatimes.com posted this November 5, 2016.

During October, the scam got exposed when cops searched some call centres of Mira Road. Thereafter, officers brought 5 Ahmedabad-situated call centres to closure that as well allegedly played part in the fraud. Lately, the Crime Unit of Thane tracked down an Audi which Thakkar was known to have bought from Virat Kohli a star cricketer, during May. Meanwhile, Thakkar's erstwhile boss, and mentor Jagdish Kanani is already under police custody; however, Thakkar has understandably fled to Azerbaijan.

Also, USA's Justice Department holds 61 entities and individuals with accusation for being connected with the fraud wherein agents of call centres disguised as the Internal Revenue Service as well as other Federal officers of the country extorted payments to clear fictitious debts.
