Google’s Pixel Smart-Phone Hijacked within Less than a Minute at PwnFest


The Register reports that Google's most recent top creation Pixel smart-phone was victimized at the Seoul, South Korea held 'PwnFest hacking competition' when a Chinese white-hat hackers' team called 'Qihoo 360' was able to execute remote code within the Pixel mobile within not even one minute through the exploitation of a zero-day security flaw.

By compromising the smart-phone, Qihoo 360 got $120k as cash prize when converted some 95,670 pounds. The team was able to abuse a security flaw inside the Pixel phone for gaining remote access followed with running random code.

Continuing with the reporting The Register put down that the exploit which Qihoo 360 discovered installed Google's Play Store followed with activating the Chrome Web-browser as well as exhibiting one web-page on which it was written "Pwned By 360 Alpha Team."

In Japan, during a PwnFest, Tencent's Keen Team found the zero-day flaw that let the hackers hijack the vital functions of the phone for e.g. photos, messaging, calls etc. Google hasn't still said regarding if a patch for the particular flaw is available or not.

And it wasn't just the Pixel smart-phone of Google that was disgraced at Seoul based PwnFest hacking for, the Safari Web-browser of Apple too made it to acquire core rights through zero-day vulnerability. Indianexpress.com posted this, November 14, 2016.

It is further reported that the hackers effectively invaded Safari Web-browser as well on Apple's most recent desktop OS namely 'macOS Sierra.' They managed in acquiring root rights of the software in just twenty seconds.

All of the above reporting follows when Adrian Ludwig Director of Security with Android in an interview to Motherboard said that in terms of security features, Apple's iPhone was as equal as Google's Pixel. He was sure that Android would fast override the iPhone given that its operating system was of open nature. Over the long run, Android with its open ecosystem would be far better placed, Ludwig concluded.

Now there are plentiful expectations from Pixel, Google indicates and it's the first smart-phone which Google has made. The company pledges providing continuous security updates for the particular mobile.
