Customers of Deliveroo get Hacked, Become Hungry and Pay the Bill

Deliveroo was launched in the year 2013. It is enjoying the success as new player of takeway industry. One can order from the local restaurants with smartphone app, and food will be delivered to you normally within an hour by delivery riders peddling on their scooters or bicycles.

User Judith MacFayden, from Reading, told the Watchdog: "I noticed that I had a 'thank you' email from Deliveroo for a burger joint in Chiswick. I thought that was really odd so I went on to my account and had a look and there had been four orders that afternoon to a couple of addresses in London."

Margaret Warner of Manchester got charged 113.70 Pound for waffles, chips and chicken, which was not ordered by her. Bbc.com posted on November 22nd, 2016, stating that the money was refunded back.

BBC investigators conducted a fresh investigation and the team found that many accounts of the Deliveroo customers' have been compromised, as they were charged for drink and food which they did not ordered. Once cybercriminals were able to got account details, they simply modify the delivery address as well as phone number on app. Several customers were not aware of this till they check the bank statements, or get the "thank you" email note of Deliveroo. Delivery promptly pointed out that the fraud "involve stolen food, not credit card numbers," and denied any breach of internal data.

Instead, it might be possible that the passwords used for protecting the app were taken from other services which have suffered a breach of data, and then are used for accessing the Deliveroo account of the victim illegally.

Deliveroo has realizes that, and thus it is trying to remove hoops as much as possible. But, few hoops which Deliveroo is removing were there mainly for the security purposes. Therefore, while it is making easier for people to place the orders, similarly it is as well making easier for people to be cheated.
