Apparently xHamster Hack Puts 380,000 Users in Compromising Situation


Hacked data of over 412 Mn users of adult websites (FriendFinder Networks's) was discarded online just 2 weeks ago. Now the hackers have again compromised another well-known adult website, named xHamster.

As per the report of Motherboard, over 380,000 email addresses, usernames, and passwords of xHamster are sold by the hackers on dark web. Hence, xHamster members are advised to change passwords without any delay. tech.thaivisa.com posted on November 30th, 2016, stating a claim by Motherboard that the data leaked is authentic and is also verified, and correspond to the existing accounts of xHamster.

More than 11 million xHamster users have some good news for the time being, as actually only 3% users of xHamster are exposed. Additionally, xHamster provided some encouraging words for the victims also. xHamster issued a statement to the Motherboard claiming that there users are perfectly safe as "the passwords of all xHamster users are properly encrypted, so it is almost impossible to hack them."

xHamster, adult entertainment website, have around 12 Mn registered users. As per Motherboard, xHamster uses the old Md5 hashing algorithm for protecting the passwords. However, Motherboard report claimed that passwords of users are poorly hashed, which means hackers can crack these passwords within seconds and can carry out spamming or phishing campaigns.

An xHamster spokesperson said: "the passwords of all xHamster users are properly encrypted, so it is almost impossible to hack them. Thus, all the passwords are safe and the user's data secured."

The user profile information of xHamster is unlikely be very damaging. Yet, around 70 registered users with government and military email address will surely wishing that their information had not got revealed. Other victims not registered with disposable email or code-name are perhaps feeling in the same manner.

xHamster to confirm the findings of Motherboard, and was informed that "there was a failed attempt to hack our database which occurred 4 years ago." Motherboard found many accounts in dump which seems to be registered on the xHamster's site, although a spokesperson of the company assured that "the integrity of user data is secure."
