According to a news release made by spokeswoman Corinne Geller, Virginia State Police is not available by email because of malware. Virginia State Police say that malware has impacted email network of the department.

Spokeswoman of state police, Corinne N. Geller, sent an email stating that email troopers will not be available to the public on email starting from 8pm on Wednesday and will last till noon on Thursday. However, area offices and headquarters are still open during business hours.

State police are working with Northrup Grumman and Virginia Information Technologies Agency for fixing the issue. Meanwhile, the state police will not be available by email. They expect to fix the problem by noon on Thursday.

The issue of email won't impact work of troopers in the field. The offices of state police will stay open in the normal business hrs. If you are required to reach the VSP, that can be done via phone. The administrative headquarters main number is 804-674-2000. The department's ability of updating the Virginia Sex Offender and Crime against the website of Children Registry has been affected by the malware. She added that the daily field operations of department won't be affected by shutting down of email or malware.

Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Superintendent of Virginia State Police, said that they recognize the important role played by emails while communicating with State Police, and appreciate the patience and understanding of the public as they diligently work to resolve this matter.
