Al Jazeera Media Network Fighting Cyber Attack

According to Al Jazeera News, its media network is in the midst of a cyberattack on Thursday. The organization reported that its digital platforms and websites were victimized of "continual hacking attempts" although the platforms have not been compromised.

Al Jazeera says that the attempts to breach the digital properties of the organization are growing in strength. The attack happens just after days a handful of countries having Muslim-majority cut off diplomatic connection with Saudi Arabia announced its objective to do so. One pressure point for longstanding tension between Qatar and its neighbors? Al Jazeera, a media network of Qatar has been often critical about Egyptian and Saudi authorities.

Qatar claims that the whole chaos started after hacking of a Qatari News Agency to plant a false story about the views of Qatari leader on Iran, Saudi Arabia and Israel, according to Doha. They said that they detached relations due to Doha's supposed financing of extremist groups and its allies to Iran who is regional arch rival of Saudi Arabia.

Last month, long-running tensions broke out openly after Qatar claimed that its state news site was hacked by unidentified parties who posted "false' statements accredited to the emir in which he speaks in favour of Iran and Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic group. The remarks were largely reported correct all over the region.

Hindustantimes.com posted on June 9th, 2017, quoting Qatar as saying "earlier this month, FBI was helping to investigate the source of this alleged hacking."

Last month, hackers gained entry to Qatar News Agency's website which is the official media outlet of the Middle East nation and apparently planted fake statements accredited to emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani. The comments criticizing Donald Trump, President of U.S. and applauded Iran for providing stability in the Middle East, resulted a split between Qatar and its bordering states. A team of Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been in Doha for the past week after the government of Qatar asked US for help in view of security breach by hackers.

Yesterday, the ministry of Interior had announced the primary results of current investigations into the hacking of QNA websites and social media handles.
